FORBIDDEN LAND EXHIBITION

  • PHOTO BOOK CAFE 4 Leonard Circus London, England, EC2A 4DQ United Kingdom (map)

Photobook Cafe and Rapid Eye Darkrooms are excited to launch our new quarterly Open Call series, beginning with the theme Forbidden Land. Join us for the exhibition on the 25th of June, exhibiting 20 international photographers selected from our new quarterly open call.

The exhibition opens on the 25th from 6pm and runs daily until the 27th.

The theme responds to Legendary British Photographer Fay Godwin, and her collections of photographic and literary catalogs, on the Governing Policies of land ownership within British Landscapes. Godwin had both a sophisticated landscape practice, addressing rural topics or regions, and a socialist and active environmentalist stand, revealing footprints of mankind's occupation and intervention on British Land.

We invited photographers of all levels to respond to the theme Forbidden Land through images that delve into the intersection of public and private space within our landscapes.

Guest Judge

Giles Price, whose work pushes the boundaries of documentary photography. Giles will be choosing one outstanding image, and award one of the selected photographers with a year's membership to Rapid Eye Darkrooms. Price’s work looks at situations of exception and extremity by exploring the boundaries of documentary practice. This includes using different types of machine vision and other lens-based technologies for effective visual storytelling. His photographs are held in permanent collections at National Portrait Gallery and Blavatnik Art, Film and Photography Galleries, Imperial War Museum, London.
