Tamiko Nishimura (b. 1948 in Tokyo), graduated from Tokyo Photography College in 1969 and made her debut through the publication of “Shikishima” in 1973, showcasing her photographs taken from 1969 to 1972 on her journeys around Japan. Nishimura describes her career as a sequence of journeys, and she continued photographing with her nomadic lifestyle.
Tokyo Rumando (b. 1980 in Tokyo), began her career working as a model for movies and magazines. This experience led her to begin shooting photographs in 2005. Self-taught, she mainly photographs herself, experimenting with the roles of both photographer and model.
Dr Lena Fritsch is the Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the Ashmolean Museum and teaches at the University of Oxford. Publications include Ravens & Red Lipstick: Japanese Photography since 1945 (2018 and 2024), Tokyo: Art & Photography (2021), and The Body as a Screen: Japanese Art Photography of the 1990s (2011).
