Another personal project by graphic designer Sue Smallwood, THEY CAME FROM THE BOOTH features over 200 found Photo-Me booth photographs collected by Sue during the early 1980s, with the main set coming from a single booth in London's Kings Cross station, 1987-9.
Carefully placed together visually and contextually, the resulting pairings create combinations both poignant and amusing, sometimes disturbing. Four decades on, they have also become a snapshot of a very different era.
Back in the 80s, the collection also became the inspiration for a song called ‘Photo-Me’ by indie pop band The Trudy, of which Sue was an original member.
The soft back, matt laminated book is A4 in size, and is 104 pages. There are just 50 copies left from the first edition. Each book in this edition comes in a hand-screen printed bag, with a bookmark and a CD of the above-mentioned - and previously unreleased - song 'Photo Me’ by The Trudy.
