Visual artist, Sonia Thomas, will introduce you to fun and simple ways to create original prints using non-toxic and easily accessible materials.This hands-on workshop is suitable for all, particularly those who have not done any printmaking before.

In the session you will try out a range of techniques and materials, and explore the effects of colour, mark making and composition.You will come away with a number of prints, the confidence in taking your ideas forward, and the techniques to experiment with printmaking at home.

Sonia Thomas is a painter, sculpture, an award-winning printmaker, and an experienced workshop leader, who lives and works in London.

Workshop schedule

1.          Welcome and brief introduction to monotypes – 5 minutes

2.         Mark making activity/ice breaker – 5 minutes

3.         Creating a print with stencils – using positive and negative space- 20 minutes

4.         Creating a print with textures – using a range of household materials – 25 minutes

Comfort break – 5 minutes

5.         Creating a printing plate for relief printing – demo – 5 minutes

6.         Creating prints using the printing plate – 15 minutes

7.         Registering paper for multi-layer prints – demo – 5 minutes

8.         Creating multi- layer prints – 15 minutes

9.         Set up gallery of work – and discussion of work - 10 minutes

10.   Clear up and close – 10 minutes
